On May 8, 2011, a solemn launch of the first in Ukraine ‘Walk of Fame’ and laying of the first four stars of Shakhtar FC’s prominent football players and coaches took place in Donetsk as a part of Shakhtar FC 75th anniversary celebration.

The first names immortalized on the Walk of Fame are the names of the Club’s veterans: center forward Vitaliy Starukhin, goalkeeper Yuriy Degteryov, and center midfielder Mykhaylo Sokolovskyy, as well as the pitmen’s current coach Mircea Lucescu.

Over 70 media representatives witnessed the brightest event of the week owing to the well-coordinated work of Mainstream team. The solemn ceremony was attended by the Shakhtar FC’s president Rinat Akhmetov, the first team, the Club’s veterans, hundreds of supporters and fans, and representatives of the city administration.

Addressing over two thousand people at the event, the Club’s President Rinat Akhmetov noted, «I want to say a huge thank you to all those, who glorified Shakhtar Donetsk. We have achieved a lot, but I am deeply convinced that the major victories and major trophies are still to come. We must glorify Shakhtar, Donetsk and Ukraine in Europe and in the world with our hard work.»

Football legends, whose names were engraved on the bronze stars of the ‘Walk of Fame’, were selected by a group of experts, consisting of journalists, Shakhtar FC’s fans, veterans, and officials. Altogether it is planned to lay 32 stars in the ‘Walk of Fame’ as well as to engage a wider circle of the team’s fans to the process of other legendary names selection.
