First independent public chamber will be established in Ukraine

March 10, 2010 saw a press conference of NGO "Committee on Fighting Organized Crime and Corruption", dedicated to establishment of the first independent public chamber. Mainstream Communication & Consulting acted as the event organizer.

Speakers of the press conference were:

  • Kosarev Oleksiy Anatoliyovych, Head of NGO "Committee on Fighting Organized Crime and Corruption".
  • Bloshchytsya Georgiy Georgiyovych, Deputy Head of NGO "Committee on Fighting Organized Crime and Corruption".
  • Yakymenko Serhiy Vasylyovych, consultant of Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fighting Organized Crime and Corruption.

In May, the first independent public chamber will be established in Ukraine, focusing its activity on fighting corruption and organized crime. The chamber will consist of non-governmental organizations. Over 500 organizations are ready to sign the memorandum of its establishment.

Oleksiy Kosarev, Head of NGO "Committee on Fighting Organized Crime and Corruption", declared that NGOs would use every effort for the Verkhovna Rada to pass the law, regulating rights and activities of public organizations and associations, which would broaden the authorities and opportunities of non-governmental structures and particularly of the public chamber to control and influence the work of the governmental institutions, local governments, etc.

In his turn, Georgiy Boshchytsya, Deputy Head of NGO "Committee on Fighting Organized Crime and Corruption", noted that the organization «creates an independent supervising body consisting of people who have proven that they are really interested in this job, know how to do it, and are interested to change the life.» He said that similar organizations had been functioning in many countries, including Russia, for a long time, and that they had a good track record as a tool of influence on government processes.
